I’ve mentioned this before, but I’m going to talk about it again. When we moved from France in August 2013 we left our house behind. It would have been fantastic to be able to take it with us, but of course that wasn’t possible. Instead it’s still sat there empty, all alone and still for sale..
We’re renting an apartment here, but it’s really small, which is why I’m dreaming of a bigger place. As my husband works from our small living room it’s quite hard at times. He works a lot and he feels like he’s always at work. It’s not just hard for him, but for us too. He’s on the phone a lot, so we always have to be quiet. Not ideal.
I really like looking at houses to see what’s for sale and what I would do to the place. It’s nice to have dreams, right? I know for a fact I’m not the only one doing this.
The flat we’re renting is nice, but it’s just too small. Actually I don’t think I want a house, rather an apartment with nice features and some outside space. I especially miss our garden (and the weather!). In France we used to go out for garden walks a lot. It basically meant inspecting our vegetables and pulling out some weeds. I’m not joking this was referred to as a “Garden walk?” and off we went often with a coffee in hand.
In the UK there aren’t many property agents who have lovely styled images like in the Nordic countries, so instead you need good imagination. Well, that’s something I do have. You’ll find me on Rightmove pretty much every day to see what’s new for sale. I even check out mortgage quotes online to see if I can find a good deal. I know, I’m crazy, but I like to know what’s out there.
We don’t need a massive place, just somewhere where we can relax and be able to separate work from the rest of our home.
I came across this living room tonight. love this room with it’s large windows and high ceilings. It feels like a place you can really relax.
The black and grey woven wall hanging is beautiful (find similar wall hangings here. I think the dining space almost feels like a café. To me it all looks very relaxing and would be perfect for the three of us.

I’m still dreaming and hoping our house will sell soon..
Happy Friday! x
Just discovered your lovely blog because I’m a BIG fan of My Unfinished Home too.
So if I’m correct, you have left France and you are now living in the UK — I hesitate between: “Ooh, poor you!” and “Yay, lucky youl”! 😉
We have some good friends there, if you want to tell me more in MP, don’t hesitate, maybe we can help with the really hard search for a home.
ps: so you speak French? 😉
Martine
