Sometimes all it takes is a little bit of imagination. If you’re short of space, there are many good ways of hiding your work area.

4 Ways To Cleverly Disguise Your Home Workspace

Let’s face it – a lot of us have found ourselves working from home recently. And whether it was a move you were happy with or perhaps less so, there are ways to integrate a workspace into your home that doesn’t allow the daily grind to take over. I think a dedicated workspace, however small, will help you to feel more productive and inspired. Best of all, these ideas needn’t take up huge amounts of space.

If you don’t have a dedicated office you can shut the door on, why not draw inspiration from these home workspaces hiding in plain sight?

Using a series of floating shelves takes away the need for a desk on the floor. The resulting look is spacious and minimal, ideal for a small alcove. You can make the space feel more like a corner of your home by styling the shelves above with personal treasures and a lamp for ambience. The shelf library by FRAMA is ideal. It gives you shelves and a desk at the same time. More from my trip to FRAMA in Copenhagen here

Here’s another pared back wall mounted desk, the Rail Desk by Menu.  It’s a minimalist workspace that gives you headspace. You could easily move the chair and it would just look like a wall shelf and nobody would know it was your desk.

This purpose built desk designed by Mar Plus Ask  incorporating a floor to ceiling window is a spot to work at. What better way to let your mind wander than to sit and look out at the view for a while. I quite like the idea that you can hide it all when you close the curtains too. Of course, we don’t all have the luxury of huge windows but you could create a simple ledge desk underneath a windowsill if you’ve got great views and light to take advantage of.

What about a desk you can fold away? The ‘Flapps’ desk by Ambivalenz comprises a series of shelves and desk surfaces that can be folded away against the wall. Describing itself as “a modular shelving system without rules”, you’re presented with endless ways to configure a workspace which blends seamlessly into your home.
