The Good Hotel, has been located at the Victoria Docks on the river Thames, London since 2016. It’s not every day you get to stay in a floating hotel, so I jumped at the chance. The hotel actually came floating over all the way from Amsterdam, Holland. Originally a prison (!) it was re-designed and a beautiful hotel was created.

What makes the Good Hotel different to a normal hotel is that it works with local businesses and trains unemployed locals and gives them a chance to build a new future. It’s a profit for non-profit business. This means it employs a social business model that re-invests all its profits. Pretty great, right?

The outside looks stunning with it’s dark grey walls and an abundance of greenery. If you like Dutch design, this hotel is perfect for you. I mentioned that it was originally a prison. The rooms are quite snug, but still comfortable. The ground floor more than makes up for it though. It’s filled with nice pockets of casual furniture and great design. The so called Living Room gives you a good choice of where to hang out.

I noticed a sign that said

“WELCOME TO GOOD HOTEL – WITH GREAT CONVERSATION A TV IS NOTHING.”

It’s so true, isn’t it? After testing the sofas out and taking the odd photo, we tried several tapas dishes from the restaurant and they were all so tasty. We even ordered two of them twice, as is was so good. As if this wasn’t enough, there’s a roof top bar!

The industrial style combines Dutch Design classics by Lensvelt and Moooi with cherry-picked items of Hema and custom made pieces by the Good Hotels own designers. As the Living room is painted black, you’re instantly drawn to the view of the river Thames.

If you’re planning a trip to London, I would highly recommend staying at the Good Hotel. Located in a vibrant area with direct travel links to Central London and cable-car access to Greenwich and the O2 Arena. London City Airport (we saw plenty of planes, as the runway is very close to the hotel), the Excel London Exhibition Centre and The Crystal business hub are around the corner.
