I’m always drawn to minimalist furniture and if you saw my recent post about Carl Hansen’s outdoor furniture collection, you’ll know I’m a fan of Morten Gottler’s work. This Copenhagen born designer has made a name for himself with his clean-lined, easy aesthetic.
And it’s one of his pieces in particular that stands out for me. The foldable MG501 Cuba Chair straddles the lines between a statement lounge chair and additional seating. Although this design is just 23 years of age and one of the newest pieces in the Carl Hansen family, its already considered a classic.
Currently sitting in the window of my living room, it makes for a welcoming spot to watch the day unfold from the garden.
This newly launched model has a seat made from woven paper cord joining the indoor/outdoor cotton weave models. Because of its lightweight frame, it’s easy to fold up, move around or hang on a wall to store it away.
It’s such an elegant and comfortable chair to use. I love its sculptural shape and subtle lean in the front legs, the way the woven seat supports your body. I think its a beautiful forever piece that can adapt well to all sorts of living situations.
You might also have spotted the floor lamp designed by Mads Odgard. I wrote about the MO lighting collection before Christmas. Have a look at the lighting collection here if you would like to find out more. It’s a beautiful minimal collection.
