Whilst in London for the Design Fair, I had the pleasure to stay at The Pilgrm hotel in Paddington. It was a much needed peaceful place to stay after a busy day the show. Just across from Paddington station, it was very handy too.
The hotel was designed by architecture studio 93. It was a complicated renovation of the Victorian area building and over multi levels, 73 rooms were created. There are both modern and vintage elements to this hotel. Unique is definitely one of the words I would use to describe it. It’s quirky, with rooms on different levels and corridors hidden away where you would least expect them.
Inspired by old world design and the glory of British craftsmanship, The Pilgrm brings a sense of provenance to today’s modern traveller. We believe in bringing people together and that genuine hospitality is seamless, generous and graceful. At our core, we’re individuals simply driven by making something that was once beautiful, beautiful again. – The Pilgrm
I felt very much at home here and love this quote, as I think it’s spot on!
“The Pilgrm is chic, in that LA, easy, relaxed, cool typefaces kind of way… It feels [like] being at a friend’s house. But better.” – RED MAGAZINE
I think a part of why it feels like this, is actually because of all the greenery and the creative art pieces. There are beautiful, well looked after, green plants everywhere. If you we’re lucky, you might even wake up to a green plant over your bed. Don’t you just love that wall planter?
I’m calling this the green hotel, as I’ve never seen this many plants in a hotel before. Love it and think hotels should take some inspiration from this. Without the plants it simply wouldn’t be quite the same. So 10/10 for the amazing plants!
The coffee and the breakfast was lovely. If you didn’t have time to sit down for breakfast, there was a great alternative with the coffee shop at the entrance. With a good choice of pastries and coffees, you could grab something quick on your way out.
The designers behind this project, don’t believe in the throwaway culture, and that is something that is apparent here. Working materials that will last and creating over 1000 pieces of furniture for this renovation, architecture studio 93 have done a great job, don’t you think?
