One of my recent Instagram discoveries is talented Swedish designer Sanna Völker and her beautiful Snug candle holders. Hand crafted by stonemasons, these candle holders are not only unique, but also an item that celebrates local craft.
All pieces are made from natural stone leftovers, some up to 500 million years old, handpicked by the designer herself from a quarry located in a small mountain village in the province of Barcelona where Sanna is based.
The two candles are trapped by the material in what becomes a brutalist yet delicate candle holder. Snug is a story of craftsmanship, sustainability and transparency. All words that I think we should all value and consider when buying things these days.
“Because the story behind the design is as important, and must be just as beautiful, as the finished piece.” – Sanna Völker
If you like what you see, you can also follow Sanna on Instagram. You have to go check out this beautiful clip. Snug – a craft story. Love it!
I have one of these on my wish list. You too? Which colour would you choose? I can’t decide.
