I love old buildings and think it’s great when they are still lived in. Too many of them are just stood there looking sorry for themselves. I keep walking around Glasgow pointing at beautiful buildings and asking my husband why they’re empty when there are lots of new homes being built. I don’t understand this…
I found this renovation project on homify. Terrry Design took on eight apartments in the Victorian Old Denim Factory. It was an urban regeneration project in the Shoreditch area of London. It’s amazing to think that this used to be a busy jeans factory.
Apartments in this Victorian factory building benefit from large warehouse-style windows, private balconies, wooden flooring, limestone bathrooms, large open plan kitchens and reception rooms. What got my attention was the balconies as well as the windows. I wasn’t expecting any outside space when I first saw this building, so that was a nice surprise. It’s also great to see some original features being kept. It wouldn’t look the same without the brick wall and the high ceilings. The open plan living space is modern and what people are looking for these days.

Who would have thought the last photo is from an old Victorian factory building? I like the mix of old and new.
