My living room is currently home to a beautiful new table and I’m completely in love with it. Say hello to the Piloti Stone Table, designed for Fredericia.
If you’ve seen my previous collaborations with this iconic Danish furniture company, you’ll know I’m a huge fan. I think this has to be one of my favourite items from the collection so far. With a design heritage dating back to 1911, Fredericia played an integral part in putting Danish mid Century modern furniture on the map, thanks in part to designer Borge Mogensen. Today, the company continues his legacy and collaborate with a number of talented new designers, combining high-quality materials with true craftsmanship.
Piloti table
The Piloti tables are designed by Portuguese born, London based designer Hugo Passos in his debut with Fredericia. His view that design must first and foremost serve their purpose is what drives all his work. Ultimately, they must be enjoyable to use.
“MY WORK IS ABOUT DAILY LIFE –
WHAT IS THE POINT OF HAVING THINGS IF THEY DON’T GIVE YOU PLEASURE?”
– Hugo Passos.
Made from grey Kendzo marble as well as lacquered, smoked or oiled oak, it’s a stunning minimal table and a definite statement piece. As the marble is a natural material, each table varies slightly and the table top gives the impression of floating as it moves seamlessly down on to slender steel legs.
Cleverly, Passos has designed three table lengths in two heights meaning you can make your own configuration with different sizes or nest them – a versatile piece when you have a larger living space.
I love its simple elegance as it picks up the light on a dreary winter afternoon. Somehow, this deceptively lightweight design adds a whole new level of experience as I sit here with my morning coffee.
