Blank canvas

6/27/2013

Wouldn’t it be fun to start with a blank canvas… What would you do?! Would you add lots of colours or leave it all white?!
I’m so in love with these windows.
Wouldn’t it be great to start again with a completely blank canvas?! We’ll of course be doing that in a few weeks time (when we move to Scotland), but as we’ll be renting I won’t be able to paint walls etc. It’s funny as I’ve never even seen the apartment we’ll be renting (not even photos), so it’s impossible to even visualize what it will be like.
There are of course things you can do instead of painting walls. I’ve written about large panels before and I’m thinking this is the way to go here.
I don’t think I’ve mentioned this before, but we’ve now more or less sold ALL our furniture. No joke! Transporting the contents of a whole house from France to Scotland is so expensive that we decided to sell most things. We’ve only kept our Wedding presents, so when I talked about starting all over again I meant it. It’s starting to look a bit empty here.. or should I call it a blank canvas for somebody else to play with..

Our home in Germany is similar. We had nothing last year. Literally. And it has always been a dream of mine starting from scratch. But you know, it is much more difficult than I thought because you see a nice piece of furniture and go: hm, I'd like to have that. Than you find a beautiful rug and think, this one is beautiful. And so on. But I realized if I had not a clear picture of what I wanted to make it look like in the end, it could become a mix and match of too much stuff. It is just so tempting to get everything since you have a white canvas and just everything fits. Result: the apartment is still quite empty:-) Let me know YOUR strategy, Hege 🙂

I bet you're going to have a lot of fun shopping once you get to Scotland and hope you will blog about how you fill your Scottish blank canvas? You've got me thinking…what would I do??

  5. Wow, you totally making a new start then! Nice!

  6. Thats a nice idea! Our furniture are all cheap ones, because if we decide to move we just give/sell them 🙂 We are drifters. Imagine moving from NYC to France and taking furniture, no way!

With that space, I would keep things very simple and clean to keep the focus on the gorgeous windows, floor, walls and ceiling. What a gorgeous space.
