I think more than ever this year, we are yearning for the days to lengthen, the tones to soften, and the fresh shoots of new beginnings to appear. We can be all assured that brighter days are in sight. And now we can begin to see what this year holds for us. In that spirit, I think a perfect place to begin is with Danish Design Studio Kristina Dam and her Spring and Summer 2021 collection.
The concept of Sculptural minimalism is the common vein running through Kristina’s new collection. The actual quality of design is put into clear focus due to the unpretentious approach to the materials used. The Scandinavian approach we’ve all come to love.
‘Each piece is based on the beauty and versatility of natural materials combined with the virtues of proficient craftmanship. The design by Kristina Dam Studio is classic yet contemporary in aesthetics with a timeless and minimalistic appearance creating a coherent whole.’
I’m really excited to see the first sofa from Kristina Dam and it’s a beautiful one too. Below, I’ve chosen my favourite designs from the new collection. I think you’ll like what you’ll see!
The Modernist Furniture Collection
In my opinion, the Modernist Collection SS21 is perfectly Scandinavian in every way.
The Modernist Sofa and Lounge Chair combines clear and uncomplicated lines with a relaxed simplicity. Coupling a single piece stainless steel frame with the softness and elegance of the soft, warm upholstery within it. Talk about timeless design.
‘The Modernist furniture collection takes
notions of modern design and yet the
distinctive design touch of Kristina Dam
Studio is evident in every single piece.
Tangible and honest design for the
modern interior.’
You might remember me writing about the Bauhaus Sofa in a previous post.
This Offset candleholders follows a similar theme, marrying two contrasting materials – travertine and sandstone. In a stand-out sculptured form it conveys a smooth, clean and natural feel to a sideboard, table display or mantelpiece. This is a stunning piece, tactile and organic and would fit in anywhere. There are two versions, called Vol. 1 and Vol. 2.
I absolutely love the tone of the Stack Wall shelf. It strikes a balance between the clean sharp coolness of its angles, and a homely warmth contained within the grain of the wood. It would be a perfect piece on which to store your favourite hard-back books, whether it be in a hallway or living room. It is made of solid oak, with doweled joints connecting the walnut pieces on the rear of the shelf.
As this piece is so timeless, it can easily fit in anywhere. I love it as a minimal bedside shelf and it looks just as good in the kitchen or living room. Versatile design is so important and Kristina has nailed it with this beautiful shelf.
