Living room with B and Q

11/01/2013

A while back I told you I was styling two rooms for B&Q (the UK’s largest home improvement retailer) for their rooms campaign. Well, here’s our new living room! It’s so much brighter and inviting now. No more magnolia walls!
For those who have followed me for a while you’ll know that my favourite wall colour is white (I guess it’s not really a colour, but it’s what I like). If you have white walls it makes it so easy to change a room. If in the future you want to add other colours it wouldn’t be difficult to change. All you would need to do is to change your accessories like cushions, curtains, ornaments or a rug and the room would look completely different. White walls = future proof, but not just that white walls make a dark room feel lighter. Being Norwegian light is really important to me.

Here’s what I did. I painted the walls white, added a white floating shelf behind the sofa. The carpet was replaced by oak Herringbone flooring and the rug renewed with a beautiful cream rug. I love the gorgeous stag cushion.
Green plants give rooms a lift and a fresh feel. I’ve added a warm knit throw for texture and cold evenings. We can put our feet up on the bean bag, but it also works well as an extra seat for children. I think my favourite is the black metal lamp or perhaps it’s the round mirror. Such lovely things and at a very decent price too! I found it all in my local B&Q store.

It wouldn’t be quite normal if I didn’t add a bit of DIY to a room. I bought an ornament from a charity shop – a cone shape. Instead of leaving it light pink I decided to spray paint it. Copper is very trendy just now, so that was of course my choice. I love the result. It only took a couple of minutes. A little tip though.. Let things dry for about 20 minutes before you try to move them.
The “marble box” is simply a cardboard box covered in Sticky back plastic, which normally used to line drawers. On my shelf there’s also an easy book folding project. For instructions on how to make your own click here
I’ve really enjoyed the process of transforming the living room. It was crying out for help! Hope you like it! We do!
Next on the list.. our neglected bedroom.
